P.E

At Colvestone, we strive to provide a physical education that not only further develops the pupil’s technical skills within PE but also to increase their self-confidence, their knowledge about their own body and how it reacts to exercise and increase their proficiency across a number of different skills and activities, that cover the PE curriculum.

The P.E. Curriculum at Colvestone aims to inspire all pupils to excel in competitive sporting environments and other physical-demanding activities. These include; agility, balance, coordination and exploring tactics within invasion game sports (such as basketball or football). During the year, pupils will experience a variety of lessons, from football and tennis to gymnastics and athletics. It allows the children to gain an understanding of their bodies in action, along with the ability to think, select and apply the skills they have learnt throughout the year. In addition to this, it promotes positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle. We provide many opportunities for our pupils to compete against other schools in a variety of tournaments during the academic year which builds character and help practice the Colvestone values such as fairness and respect.

Outside of the PE lessons, we are also very active! This year we have made the Daily Mile a part of our routine. This not only helps us become healthier physically, but is also shown to improve mental health and concentration within the classroom. Year 4 and 5 go swimming at Kings Hall leisure centre on a weekly basis learning essential skills to build confidence when going into the water. Cycle confident also come into the school. While here, they offer cycling training to some of our year 5 and 6 students, teaching them how to ride a bike properly, how to check for the necessary safety precautions and later on in the training, how to ride safely out on the roads in the local area.

The key skills we learn in PE are transitional to many other lessons across the school and outside of school. All of the values that we have at Colvestone integrate into our PE lessons which helps us create a competitive environment, while being respectful to all those competing at the same time.
