Year 2

Our curriculum theme for Autumn term is Ancient Civilisation.

This term in Year 2 our curriculum focus is ‘Ancient India’. We will investigate how the civilisation began and ended, how we find out information about historical events and what daily life was like during Ancient India. We have sequenced key events that occurred during our focus civilisation and have used this information to help us understand more about the time period. Core subjects such as literacy are used to help inform the curriculum as we enjoy learning from a cross-curricular perspective.

Our class novel is ‘The Elephant’s friend and other stories from Ancient India’ by Marcia Williams. This book contains traditional stories that are retold in simple words with colourful pictures to support understanding. The stories contain morals that children can identify and apply to their personal lives and modern day society. This novel will be used in class to help our learning of spelling, punctuation and grammar.

On a daily basis we develop and rehearse skills in literacy, maths, reading and phonics. Throughout the week we do Spanish, P.E, R.E, geography and history. Children have other experiences through the week such as music, dancing and drumming and art.
